General Information
Adding various medications or compounds to diets is a convenient way to medicate lab animals, and is a viable option if stability or activity of the compound is not compromised during manufacture or further processing (such as irradiation). The inclusion rate of any given medication can be adjusted to suit your needs. Contact technical service for assistance in calculating inclusion rates.
Fenbendazole
Harlan Teklad stocks TD.01432 (2018S, 150 ppm fenbendazole), which contains the anthelmintic fenbendazole for treatment of pinworms. Contact customer service regarding availability of TD.01432.
Other standard diets with Fenbendazole are available as custom research diets. Fenbendazole can also be added to purified diets if necessary. Contact technical services to discuss your needs.
Uniprim®
Uniprim® contains trimethoprim and sulfadiazine, used to prevent occurrences of Pneumocystis murina (formerly P. carinii) pneumonia in immune compromised mice and rats. Harlan Teklad stocks TD.06596 (Irradiated 2018, 4100 ppm Uniprim®).

Doxycycline
A range of levels of doxycycline (as doxycycline hyclate) can be added to a standard rodent diet (or purified diet if necessary) to induce gene expression. Some typical inclusion rates are 200 and 625 mg doxycycline hyclate per kg diet, but many diets specify a higher level. Doxycycline containing diets are often ordered in irradiated form.
